Bio
Margaret D. Helthaler is a fine art photographer, art educator and graphic designer whose efforts are informed by a deep attachment to the rural topography of her Catskill Mountain home in upstate New York. Her graphic design served non-profit organizations for over fifteen years. Some of her main clients were land-stewardship organizations, so it was a natural progression when Margaret began exploring her own land-based interests through alternative photography. Her approach incorporates tools she was first introduced to as a graphic designer; she uses a flatbed scanner and other alternative processes to examine fine details in the environment more closely.
Margaret currently teaches graphic design for the Art Institute Online, a division of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, PA. and has also taught graphic design, drawing and photography courses for SUNY College at New Paltz, Ulster County Community College and Sullivan County Community College. She received a BFA in graphic design in 1995 from SUNY College at New Paltz and a MFA in visual art in January 2006 from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University.
